Fouaad Mirza and Kamalpreet Kaur – The Indian Olympic debutants have made remarkable contributions in enhancing their sport. Kamalpreet Kaur created a history by directly qualifying into finals of discus throw, a game conventionally played by India, however never being able to qualify for finals before. Discus throw now will have a new identity and we will think of Kamalpreet Kaur every time discus throw is mentioned.
Fouhaad Mirza made word “Equestrian” familiar to us. He became the first Indian since 1982 to win a medal at an individual equestrian event at the Asian Games and qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics, becoming the first Indian equestrian since Imtiaz Anees (2000) to participate at the Games.
Both these youngsters have given a new face their respective games. They have will and grit and many years ahead of them to represent India. We hope to see them coming stronger and shine brighter.
